Fine Foods, Gourmet Sandwiches

Many Chicagoans steer clear of this wonderful specialty food shop just off Michigan Avenue because of the prohibitive lines that never seem to shorten. Still, this forever-jammed outpost of a local mini-empire shouldn’t be missed. Bring a friend to stand in line for gourmet sandwiches (think Blue Pig N’ Fig with serrano ham, blue cheese, local fig and black tea preserves, and whole-grain Dijon mustard on a freshly-baked baguette) while you peruse the jaw-dropping collection of world-class farmstead cheeses, every one of which the guy behind the counter knows intimately.  Opt for a bottle of small-production wine or craft beer, then join up, and take your booty three blocks southeast to Millennium Park, and find a shady tree.
