Harris Theater

Contemporary, Minimalist Concert Space

Designed with bare-bones simplicity, this subterranean midsize music and dance hall is a space with an emphasis on austere right angles.  The building’s design, envisioned by architect Thomas Beeby, is modest compared to its cultural counterparts, such as the Civic Opera House, and its neighbor Frank Gehry’s Pritzker pavilion in Millennium Park.  The Harris is home to contemporary dance giant Hubbard Street Dance, the Chicago Childrens Choir and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s MusicNOW series, a program that focuses on contemporary music, such as work by celebrated French composer Pierre Boulez and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, who wrote the feisty score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2007 film There Will Be Blood.
